Vintage Stereo Console
strong>Vintage Stereo console
My vintage console stereo 1960s works great but the radio has a humming sound when it is on. How do I fix it?
The humming sound goes on when I turn on the radio. If I turn the volume up, you eventually won't hear the hum, however the volume is so loud at this point that you can barely stand it. It is a 1960s RCA console stero with an AM FM radio.
Please tell me what to do to stop the hum. This stereo is real cool looking and I want to be able to use it everyday without the hum!
Oh by the way, this old type of stereo has the old fashioned tubes in it. It looks like all the tubes do work and light up?
The capacitors are the things that look like they are wrapped in brown cardboard? How do I know if they are bad. Glass tubes are easy to see if the light up or not but how do you tell with capacitors?
The best way to stop it from humming is to teach it the lyrics.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
