Vintage Sailor Dress

Is it okay to wear a dress like this nowadays, and is there a way to tie it in so it looks more modern?
Well, I was looking at vintage and thrift shops this week, and I came across an adorable 40's or 50's style sailor dress, and it's white and black striped. It is cotton with a belt. It doesn't have the little cape on the back like most of the sailor dresses, so its more casual. Could I get away with wearing it now? Is there a way I could make this work now, or tie it in to make it look more modern? And yes, I am unique and sometimes like to dress really vintage...so I think I could pull it off.im not asking if its ugly, do you like it,etc. Im asking Could you wear this now, and tie it in to be more modern???
THIS IS NOT ME NOR MY EXACT DRESS, but it does look pretty close but different color.

wear it with a nice cardigan, or a mac trench coat ![]()
maybe some modern simple ballet pumps.
some nice gold jewellery to carry on the nautical theme.
The dress in the picture looks really cool!
