Vintage Electric Fans

How do I clean and tune up and old desk fan?
I recently bought a vintage 40's or 50's desk fan at a flea market. It does run - but there is excessive noise and it kind of runs faster, then slower, then faster. What type of maintenance could I do to it to tune it up? It looks like a pretty simple electric motor.
Have a similar fan that I liberated from a junk pile.
Barely moved at all.
Aside from cleaning the dirt from outside I opened the motor housing & used tuner cleaner on the motor coil & commutator to flush out the dust & dirt.
Cleaned the old grease from the oscillator mechanism also.
Found oiling holes under the grease & re- oiled w/ 3 in1 oil .
Been running fine for years.
Best regards
