How do you shine the chrome on a Kirby Vacuum?

I inherited a 1960's Vintage Kirby vacuum form my Grand father's estate. It sat in the back of his closet almost 20 years. I spent some time replacing the belt, and other wear and tear items on it. It still works great, but the finish on it looks rather poor. The luster is dull, and doesn't reflect anymore. I want to shine it up again and make it look presentable. I know it is made out of aluminum, and I don't know what the best course of action to take is.
