Vintage maternity (20s-40s) help for friend's wedding?
Hi. I've been invited to a wedding in a couple of months, dress code 1920s-1940s. I'll be 8 months pregnant by then and am struggling to find affordable, attractive options. Authentic vintage maternity doesn't really exist as you didn't flaunt your bump back then and stayed home once you were big. So any ideas on outfits that are styleable or looks I can improvise? Clearly I have not a big budget and it's a waste to buy something I can't wear again (maternity clothes are a problem like that anyway). Also, I am in my thirties + curvy size 10/12 without bump so needs to be age appropriate and flattering too (e.g. sleeveless or hip-hugging/above-knee styles to be avoided). Any help/inspiration much appreciated!
I think you'll struggle with 1920-1930 stuff.
Loose (swing) coats were quite 1940's and here is an ebay item which could be used as inspiration. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160392754503
An image of an original 1940's blouse, which you can style loose over a modern maternity skirt. http://www.victorianelegance.com/ve/vec951.jpg. I'd start browsing charity shops
Hairstyle, hat, gloves and make-up colours should be able to complete a 'look'.
