Vintage Motorcycle

What kind of motorcycle is right for me?
So, just recently I just got into the idea of buying a motorcycle for myself. I've been looking around some, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask some people who are familiar with a lot of different motorcycles. Anyway, I'm 22-years-old, pretty simple, and rather simple. I do not want a chopper, sports cycle, or heavy Harley or anything similar. I just want it to be simple, easy, and maybe a little vintage. Also, I hope to maybe some day travel across country with it, but I'm not looking for a touring cycle either. Just simple. Any thoughts or suggestions?
For riding you will be wanting new or late model used.
My bike would do you -- the Suzuki S40. It's a cruiser, but the seating is not radically foot forward. It is a 652cc single cylinder, 380 pounds road ready. It was a retro design when it came out as the Savage in 1986 and has hardly changed since. Air cooled, carb, belt drive. Mine does daily duty as a commuter on L.A. city streets, will hit 85mph on the freeways, I've taken it on the twisties and on tour (L.A. - OK.C)
If you want a more traditional (vintage) layout you have the Honda Nighthawk 250, discontinued for 2009 and the Suzuki TU250X, new for 2009 -- at 250cc / 320pounds on the road they would be excelent on the street, capable of freeways, but a bit marginal on tour. Heavier, more expensive, the Moto Guzzi V7 and the Trimuph Bonneville.
