I purchased a vintage Regency police scanner, touch K -500 series?
I am interested in knowing if I purchased something that will work in today's world of updated electronics, or did I just buy an antique.to store on the shelf. Is it feasible to program frequencies into it. I tried to program it ,following the instructions but didn't have any luck..Any words of wisdom would be GREATLY appreciated. I plugged it in and did receive some type of weather channel, but I think the speaker was kind of fuzzy. Is it worth repairing if needed?
visit your local radio shack. They should be able to give you local and state frequencies for your area to program in so when you go into scan mode, it highlights the known frequencies. I have a couple of older scanners, and enjoy them. They will pick up emergency channels, including CHP, County, And local police, as well as fire channels for local, and CDF in California. Some frequencies are kept secret, and need to be searched out through wide band scanning, and careful attention to the scanner, if you have the time.
If Radio Shack can't help you, contact someone local who is into either HAM radio, or Scanners. Put an ad on a bulletin board or look in your yellow pages. Where I live, There is a local business called The Yak Yak Shack that is basically for Truckers, but they have a lot of knowledge about local, State, and Federal frequencies.
